Matt Casey

Matt is a former Detective Inspector and Head of the School of Investigation and Intelligence at the NSW Police Academy.  He has an extensive background in the investigation of child abuse and sexual assault.  After retiring from Policing, he became a Counsellor and his practice included work with victims of sexual abuse, domestic violence, anger management and family breakdown.  From 2012 to 2017 he managed Professional Standards and Safeguarding for the Catholic Archdiocese of Canberra and Goulburn.  He now provides ad hoc services to various church entities around safeguarding including reviews, investigations, restorative practice and professional development and is based in Goulburn, NSW.

He is a member of the Boards of the Conflict Resolution Service, ACT and the Tomkins Institute.  Previous appointments include the Management Committee of Karinya House (For Mothers and Babies), Canberra, the Family Support Service in Goulburn, Restorative Practices International, the Catholic Bishops Council for the Pastoral Care of Prisoners and a range of community and sporting organisations.

Matt’s combination of experience in the police, counselling, and understanding of the Catholic Church landscape enables him to effectively support a true trauma-informed and procedurally fair review function.
