ACSL Learning Platform

In line with our mission to help organisations protect children and adults at risk, we have sourced and developed a range of professional development resources and courses focusing on safeguarding.

Some of these are created by ACSL, and others are offered in partnership with leading safeguarding authorities (including the Australian Childhood Foundation and the Australian Human Rights Commission).

Registration is free, modules are quick, and many courses are free also.

Before you can enrol in a course or webinar you will need to create a training user account and profile. Creation of a profile is free.  You will only need to do this once, and the account will retain information on your professional development over time.

Professional development opportunities overview

Courses include microcredentials in safeguarding, short modules around safeguarding topics and general professional development.

ACSL modules available include an introduction to safeguarding, safeguarding adults at risk, safeguarding in a digital world and managing and mitigating safeguarding risks.

Resources available include webinar recordings about safeguarding topics and links to Australian and international safeguarding resources.

Introduction to Safeguarding Program

Designed for anyone new to safeguarding within a Church context, this program is a series of short flexible online modules.

The six modules contained within this program take between 15 and 25 minutes each to complete. They provide learners with a better understanding of safeguarding in the Catholic Church and tools to help identify child abuse and adults at risk, including guidance for responding to disclosures.

Monthly webinars

Live learning sessions with prominent thought leaders on areas of safeguarding interest and concern to enhance Continuous Professional Development (CPD).

Webinars are usually offered online monthly and require registration for attendance.

Each month ACSL hosts a different topical leader providing a safeguarding relevant presentation and question and answer session.

Leaders and Leadership Teams Program

Offered regularly for leaders and leadership teams within the Catholic Church, this training has been written to meet the requirements of NCSS Standard 5.3.2.

This is offered as a hybrid training model – depending on your entity’s needs. This can be delivered as face to face or webinar sessions which are supplemented by online self-paced materials.

Safeguarding for Board and Trustees

This two-hour online training program has been designed to address the governance responsibilities for safeguarding. The program will help boards and trustees to:

  • Understand the importance of safeguarding for your organisation, particularly in relation to the National Catholic Safeguarding Standards.
  • Understand your safeguarding responsibilities as Responsible Persons under ACNC.
  • Identify the roles and responsibilities in safeguarding based on legal and canonical requirements.
  • Encourage a respectful, accountable and trauma-informed safeguarding culture.
  • Identify red flag issues of concern at the strategic and leadership level​.
  • Strengthen organisational policies and create risk registers as part of a safeguarding framework.
  • Further equip you with skills and resources to be confident in promoting good safeguarding practice in the Church and community.
