Dr, The Hon Tricia Kavanagh

Dr Kavanagh has presided as both a first instance Judge and an Appeals Judge and held a joint Commission as a Justice of the NSW Industrial Court and Deputy President of the NSW Industrial Relations Commission.   

She was also a presiding member of NSW Racing Appeals Tribunal (horse, harness and greyhound racing) and Deputy Chair of the NSW Medical Tribunal: both Tribunals dealt with applications to discipline or strike off practitioners.  

Since its establishment in 1994 Dr Kavanagh has presided as an Arbitrator on the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) sitting as Presidential Member of the Anti-Doping Appeals Panel. 

Prior to her appointment to judicial office Dr Kavanagh practiced as a Barrister for 18 years after being called to the Bar in 1981. Before she served the Australian Government between 1973 and 1975 as one of three Full Time Members, on the Interim Childrens Commission: its task was to establish a range of early childhood Childrens’ Services and advise on Government policy.
